Flip Flop Summer!

Flip Flop Summer!

Well my dreams have come true and now I have some sweet little ones to share my time with. My grand-children’s teachers are very sweet and my grand-daughter asked if I could help her make a gift for them. She said she wanted to work with me in the craftroom and make a prize.  So with Craftwell’s eBosser and my new ScraPerfect Best Glue Ever I  worked with Reilee to create some great gift boxes.

I can’t believe how great this glue really works. I had no problem with slippage or slow drying. I am so glad because working with a very young paper artist can be trying. Reilee was able to help me hold the paper together for a few seconds till it held and we managed to create some really cute boxes.

We cut out our SVG file and embossed the sides with our texture plate. I used plates A, C, and D and used paper napkins to make the imprint. I also used a Sizzix  flower die to create our Flip Flop Embellishment for our “shoe”.

The passion flower is real it is Reilee’s she loves them and begs to pick them. I gave in and let her have one!

She wanted to wear them all, but found out that paper crumbles when weight is put on it. I know she had fun and I had a great time with her and will treasure the memories! Thank you eBosser and ScraPerfect Best Ever Glue for helping create memories!

Faux Letterpress

Faux Letterpress using the Craftwell eBosser!

I recently saw a post on the Yahoo eBosser Support group about the letterpress and wanted to find out more it and the process used to make your eBosser a printing press.

So I borrowed a friend’s press plates and off on my journey to letterpress.

2013-06-21 00.54.11

I experimented with different surfaces and finally discovered that if I cut a chopping sheet in half it made a folder for my “letterpress” it would work.

2013-06-20 23.26.00

I used my C, D, and A plate for my sandwich. I placed the “letterpress” under the A and on top of the C and D. It worked pretty well.

I also used my Craftwell’s eBosser for the beautiful embossed surface of my card. I love using my eBosser as it has such a beautiful sharp emboss. I am still working on this idea but wanted to share my success so far. Hope your week is wonderful,

Blooming Cake Reveal!

Blooming Cake Reveal!

I am so excited to reveal my Photofrost Icing Sheets! cake! I have worked for several weeks on design and then had to rethink my whole project. I decided to make my cake bloom with all of the beautiful flowers around. I am so pleased with my outcome. I am just a regular person so my cake reflects my style.

I started with baking a two layer small cake. When it came out of the oven I used a long bread knife to make cut it flat. You just take the knife and cut across the top and then voile your cake is “square”. I don’t have to worry about volcano shaped cakes when I use this method.

I filled it with apple butter which is one of my family’s favorite fillings. I then used my buttercream frosting recipe to cover those two luscious layers of cake. I love my special bent spatula to smooth my frosting. I also used my vintage cake plate painted by my Grandmother years and years ago!

I have had a blast making this cake! I love my frosting and had to hold back as I could just eat all of the creamed butter alone. Wow, loving the memories!

During the smoothing process. I lumped frosting on and tried to avoid pulling crumbs off of cake into frosting.

Next step is airbrushing a color base to my cake. This is a stencil made from cutting the Photofrost Icing Sheets! with my eBosser . I used Wilton food Markers to apply the color. I just love experimenting with color and also with shading and shadows and that is why I used the markers.

2013-06-11 16.56.21

I used the markers to under-shadow all of my placements for my Photofrost Icing Sheets! flowers.

2013-06-11 16.56.47

I used Spellbinder’s Flower die and also a border die to cut out my Photofrost for my cake. I love the gold border around the sides of the cake! For the flowers I  made three layers and the last one I rolled for a center for my flowers

My cake is very simple and homey but filled with love!

2013-06-11 23.08.06-1

I hope to make another soon because I forgot how much fun it was to make a fuss over a cake! I can’t wait to share my “decorating” with my grand-daughter and grand-son who will love licking the beaters.

2013-06-12 09.39.32

The dragonfly was also a Spellbinder die and I used the Wilton Markers and also the Wilton Sparkle Gel to make him come to life! I love my cake and am so happy that I was honored to use Photofrost sheets! Thank you so much I will be purchasing more!

I hope you enjoyed my cake and hope that you too try one! It is so much fun and the eBosser makes it super easy!

Have a great summer and see you next week!

Closer and Closer to the Reveal

Closer to Revealing the …

I am having so much fun playing with my eBosser and my embossing folders and thin metal dies cutting Photofrost Icing Sheets! I am really learning a bit about this great product. It embosses very easy and cuts wonderfully. I also have used some Wilton cake decorating markers with it. I used my bulb driven airbrush to “color” the petals of my flowers. It is so easy.

2013-06-06 19.40.41

I cut some shapes to make stencils to use for painting.  I place back in container as soon as I can so that my pieces don’t dry out.

I decided to cut the pieces apart and then mix the colored pieces back together.

2013-06-06 23.01.16

You can see how crisp the embossing is. I love all of this so much. It has been a true learning experience. I have used waxed paper and made sure that all of the tools I used are cleaned very well as this is food. I also have used wax paper and freezer paper to put my items through my machine so that all remains safe to eat.

2013-06-06 23.22.43

I am also icing my cake and getting ready to put all together for you in our last week of this fun challenge. I have a great Butter Cream Frosting recipe. This is for the cake before the decorations are added. I always use this for my “canvas” for my cakes. I will share it with you!

Butter-Cream Frosting

(for frosting only, not good for piping or making decorations)

1/2 cup solid vegetable shortening

1/2 cup butter or margarine (not whipped)

1 tsp. vanilla or any flavor of your choice

4 cups sifted confectioners’ sugar (approx. one pound)

4 tbsps. of milk (more or less as needed) add one tbsp. at a time

Note: it is very important and necessary to sift the confectioners’ sugar also, when using butter or margarine in frosting do not melt it, use it in its solid form.

Cream butter and shortening with an electric mixer. Add flavoring. Gradually add sugar one cup at a time alternating with milk. Keep mixer on low or medium speed.

Take a regular or angled spatula and smooth over the surface of the cake. Being careful not to pull crumbs over the surface of the cake. I like to make my surface very smooth and the edges crisp. This frosting is very tasty too. I hope you enjoy it so simple to make. Heck I make it instead of opening a can of frosting.

Just wait till you see what is in store for you next week,

Best,

debi

Planning for a Special Dad

Planning for a Special Dad

Well this is certainly a change of venue for me. I first stepped out of my box and right into a paper pile. Now I am jumping into the kitchen to make my next large project.

I am going to decorate a father’s day cake using my Craftwell eBosser and Photofrost Icing Sheets. I am very excited. I have to pull myself back from jumping in without planning.

I have selected to make a round cake with decorations made from various embossing folders and these colors of Photofrost Icing Sheets.

8x13 Green Icing Sheet8x13 Orange Icing Sheet8x13 chocolate Icing Sheet8x13 ivory Icing Sheet

I want to make a very cute cake with these masculine colors. I also have purchased some markers made for coloring food. So I am ready to get rolling. Here are some of the folders that I am considering for my project.

I am still planning and will have a rough layout with my final decisions in next week’s post. Please feel free to give me your suggestions, do you like the embossing folders that I have selected?

The excitement builds!

My eBosser is going to get a work out…coming soon.
